Após anunciar o fim, R.E.M. libera música inédita na internet, que virá em coletânea com 40 faixas

Para se despedir de vez dos fãs, o R.E.M preparou um presente especial para aqueles que os acompanharam durante os 31 anos de carreira. A coletânea "R.E.M., PART LIES, PART HEART, PART TRUTH, PART GARBAGE, 1982 - 2011" terá 40 canções, incluindo três inéditas. O lançamento está marcado para dia 15 de novembro, mas a faixa "We all go back to where we belong" foi divulgada, nesta terça-feira, no site da edição americana da revista "Rolling Stone".

Em setembro, a banda utilizou seu site oficial para publicar um comunicado encerrando o fim das atividades. Michael Stipe e companhia escreveram agradecimentos aos fãs dizendo que "foi maravilhoso contruir algo extraordinário juntos" .
